Acclaimed Debut Novel Comes Around, Explores Resilience and the Power of Family

Corporate Intrigue Meets Small-Town Loyalty in Michelle S. Morris’s Gripping Debut Novel, Comes Around

Author and former global communications executive Michelle S. Morris announces the official release of her debut novel, Comes Around, a high-stakes narrative that masterfully blends the sharp-edged world of Silicon Valley corporate intrigue with the gritty, unwavering loyalty of a Northern Michigan motorcycle club. This compelling work of fiction invites readers into a world where the past is never truly buried and where the definition of success is redefined through the lens of family and resilience.

The story follows Halley McCarthy, a brilliant 31-year-old Chief Marketing Officer who has spent her adult life climbing the corporate ladder in New York and San Francisco. Her world shatters when the high-tech startup she helped build implodes under a federal investigation into massive fraud and embezzlement. Adding to the devastation, Halley discovers that her fiancé, the company’s CFO Anthony Martinelli, was the architect of the crimes and has vanished after draining her personal bank accounts. Stripped of her professional identity and her savings, Halley flees the West Coast, seeking refuge in the only place she has left: her childhood home in rural Northern Michigan.

Upon her arrival, Halley must navigate the profound shame of professional failure, viewing herself as a "shadow of her former self" despite her family’s belief in her innocence. She returns to the McCarthy compound, a fortress protected by her father, James "Irish" McCarthy, the president of the Phantom Raiders Motorcycle Club (MC). While Halley initially attempts to keep her family at a distance to protect them from her mess, she soon realizes that the "shadow from her past" is more dangerous than a corporate scandal.

The novel’s core conflict intensifies as it is revealed that Anthony Martinelli is actually Anthony Barone, the scion of a Chicago crime family with a bloody, multi-generational vendetta against the McCarthys. Halley’s mother was murdered years ago by Anthony’s father, Dante Barone, in an act of rogue violence that the McCarthy’s settled "in-house". Now, Anthony has returned to finish his father's work, stalking Halley and leaving unsettling messages, including black roses and a defaced doll to signal his impending move.

At its heart, Comes Around is an exploration of multi-generational family bonds. The McCarthy family, including Halley’s formidable grandmother Mary, her steadfast grandfather Mitchell, and her protective brothers, exemplifies a "family takes care of family" code. The narrative showcases how these bonds provide the ultimate defense against external threats, culminating in a high-tension confrontation where the family’s survival depends on their collective strength and a sharp-shooting matriarch.

The theme of personal redemption is woven through Halley’s journey as she pivots from corporate executive to entrepreneur. Partnering with her brother Drake, a gifted artist who has long hidden his talents, Halley develops a business plan for a custom vehicle art and marketing firm. This new venture allows her to reclaim her agency and prove that true success is found in passion and connection rather than a C-suite title.

Michelle S. Morris brings a unique authenticity to the prose, drawing on her own "hard left turn" from a career in global corporate communications and journalism to full-time fiction writing. Having worked in environments ranging from the White House to international corporate corridors, Morris infuses the startup's collapse with realistic technical and legal detail while grounding the Michigan setting in sensory-rich memories of mown grass and the "familiar smells" of home.

Comes Around is a story of finding hope in the wake of tragedy. It is a testament to the idea that everything eventually "comes around," and that even the deepest valleys of life can lead to new, more meaningful heights.
